Anyway, all of us over there are posting our five favorite horror movies, and I just listed mine, so go check it out - Five Favorites: Jeff Edition.
If you want to see Viggo Mortenson’s weiner flapping around during a grueling bathhouse brawl, then Eastern Promises is the flick for you. Full frontal male nudity aside, I thought this was a pretty great movie and I recommend it. I think I liked Cronenberg and Mortenson’s previous team-up, A History of Violence, quite a bit better but that’s not a dis on Eastern Promises by any means.
We saw Shoot ‘Em Up tonight, it was pretty rad. Totally hilarious, it’s like Looney Tunes meets Die Hard, complete with a carrot-munching Bugs Bunny-esque hero. I think there was supposed to be some sort of anti-gun message in there, but it failed on a few levels. First, it’s just philosophically wrong. Second, it’s poorly delivered; almost childishly ham fisted, sort of like “Guns are bad, mmkay?” And thirdly, the movie’s wall-to-wall action sequences make guns look freakin’ awesome.
But I gotta get back to work… Dead Lantern isn’t going to reprogram itself!
