House Hunting
March 25th, 2008 by JeffTina & I have been looking at houses here in Lincoln. We’ve seen a few dumps but have also seen a few really nice joints. We’ve got a couple at the top of our list right now.
It’s too bad that some of the areas close to the capitol are so crummy because I’d love to live in that part of town. I walked by a couple of houses for sale in the area and I thought “Wow, it would be great if this neighborhood could be cleaned up and revitalized!” and I simultaneously thought “…but I’m not going to be the one to do it!”
I was looking at a particular house on D St that had interested me when I saw it listed on a realty website. It was a cute, older home with plenty of space and a 5-stall garage in back. Not that I need 5 stalls by any means, but it’s a pretty amazing feature. So I went to see it in person and there’s graffiti all over the garage. I don’t know if it’s gang-related (Is it quaint of me to be worried about gangs in Lincoln? Cut me some slack, I’ve only been here a year.) or maybe just some stupid kids screwing around and tagging buildings. Either way, I just don’t think I want to have my wife and daughter in that area.

I know, right? The garage was off of a paved alley, too, which would be pretty rad.

Man Jeff, you should come to North Omaha with me sometime and see the graffiti, it’s actually out of the norm to see an object without something written on it! At least at the end of the day I get to come home to my clean little area of town
Not that I have any experience house hunting but a couple of my friends just purchased a home- they were picky yet patient and in the end got what they really wanted for the price they wanted- I had to go to the federal building a couple of weeks ago for an exam and ended up driving around due to not being able to navigate in Lincoln very well!- yes that area of town is quite dumpy…i’m sure you will find something great, good luck!

Thanks for posting, Shauna! We’ve got a great agent helping us and we’ve seen a couple places that would be just fine for our needs. I’m sure we’ll end up somewhere nice. We’re just learning the hard way that we should have saved a lot more before we had a baby!
